What kind of designer I am
I am a proactive, analytical and strategic minded product / UX designer with over 9 years of experience.
I can help you with planning and driving the full product design cycle starting from stakeholder engagement to research and discovery, concept development, design, prototyping, implementation and evaluation.
Recent projects
User research & UX/UI Design for ML Ops
Novo Nordisk, 2023
My work supported the development of ML Ops infrastructure. I did qualitative research with data scientists working with ML/AI. This work resulted in a set of personas that are used for internal alignment and prioritization.
Through a series of workshops, user and SME interviews I documented a to-be user journey for getting cloud services up and running, ready for the data science work. This journey is then used for internal alignment across related initiatives and for building the set of services and interfaces that make up that journey.
I wrote a user onboarding guide documenting this user journey applied to a programmatic UI.
I also supported a generative AI project with UI design work.

Ultrasound at home with AI
Novo Nordisk, 2022–2023
"Julia has done a great job working with us on our AI powered solution for ultrasound scanning of joint bleeds in haemophilia patients. Her keen insights and dedication to thorough iterative UX testing and development has been a key part in our efforts. I can recommend Julia for any project where thorough UX work is needed." — Lars Bryrup, Senior Innovation Consultant

What I can help with
I plan, execute and communicate user research and discovery
I create user research and discovery plans that all stakeholders and team mates can understand and get behind. Working collaboratively with the team, I reach an alignment on the objectives and the scope.
Each piece of research comes with a clear summary of learnings. It also comes with a list of suggested action items and priorities that follow from what we learned. This approach supports making traceable product and design decisions.
I develop concepts and build prototypes
I do iterative concept development for product, UX, UI and service design. I love working collaboratively with others and facilitating cross-functional teamwork to create innovative and effective concepts.
My prototypes can be on all fidelity levels from paper mockups to functional prototypes with connected hardware. The choice of method depends entirely on what better helps a given project with its objectives and constraints.
I support UI design ops
UI design operations work involves improving the connection between UI design, development, and QA. A smooth and efficient communication between these roles helps to deliver high quality products. I implement best practices for design-to-dev delivery and train my colleagues on how to improve their process.
I have experience building design systems from scratch and maintaining them.
I employ a product approach and mixed methods research
Using a product approach, I help the team formulate assumptions and hypotheses. I then select the most appropriate methods for verifying those hypotheses based on the task at hand and the available resources.
I design and execute mixed methods studies that incorporate both qualitative and quantitative data.
I help instrument product and UX metrics to ensure that we are tracking the right metrics to inform our decisions.
I am a player-coach
I execute all the activities myself, and I also mentor and support more junior colleagues.
I see design broadly, and with my growth mindset I'm flexible in the scope of my role and my skillset. Content, product marketing communication, business model, data instrumentation and many other product aspects all impact the user experience.
Working on the UI features is not necessarily what brings most value to users and business, and my job is to be able to see if that is the case and to find what creates more value.

Oral health tracking app
Pharma company, 2020
This app was meant for tracking oral health while using a product meant to improve some of oral health issues.
After an intense two-day co-creation session, I analysed the outcomes and delivered a concept for the app UI.

UI Builder
Lenus, 2021
UI Builder was a project of an internal tool that would enable developers as well as non-developers to visually configure the products in a faster and easier way.
After a series of co-creation workshops and user interviews, I delivered a series of diagrams and UI concepts.

Voice Recordings Management Tool
Laerdal, 2020
A medical simulator is a scene with a few characters: a patient, a doctor or a nurse, perhaps a relative. They act and they talk. All this talking makes up thousands of audio files that need be verified, localized and managed.
After researching into an optimal process, I created a no-code solution that took care of this process while improving the way the metadata is handled.
I built a no-code MVP using three common off-the-shelf services. It has proved that it's possible to assemble a custom workflow in a no-code way. In the time when there's no resources to look into an internal tool like this one, no-code is a great way to try out.

Imagine: tracking app for psoriasis patients
Leo Innovation Lab, 2017
In 2017 I got a chance to join Leo Innovation Lab for a few weeks to support the lead designer of Imagine — an app for tracking the effectiveness of your psoriasis treatment.
Together with the lead designer of the app we worked on a set of new features. We combined user testing of the prototypes with in-depth interviews. We gathered feedback on the early ideas for several new features and explored different navigation options.
